2. Measuring the soft and rounded edges of a mattress can be difficult so it can be easier to measure the existing space that the mattress will sit in instead.  When you have a “wall to wall” measurement, most people will make the mattress 1″ smaller than that space which will leave about a half inch of wiggle room around the edges for sheets and other bedding.
3. Round your measurements to the nearest 1/2 inch.  Mattresses are generally soft and forgiving and will not be made to fractional sizes like 1/4 or 5/8, etc.  
4. Double check and then double check again!  Since this is a custom size, you’ll want to be 100% sure it’s correct.  Some people find it helpful to make a sample template out of cloth or cardboard to set in place to make sure it fits correctly before ordering their custom mattress with the custom shape and size.
